Our Mission & Vision

We exist to equip individuals to live out the Gospel of Christ for the glory of God.

As such, it is our goal to become an organization identified with the work and message of Jesus Christ in northwestern metro Atlanta.

And he gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the shepherds and teachers, to equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ, until we all attain to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to mature manhood, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ. . . Becoming a Christian

WE LOVE God and our Neighbor

“ And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment. And the second is like, namely this, Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself. There is none other commandment greater than these. .” – Mark 12:30-31

“Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen. .” – Matthew 28:19-20

Our Beliefs

Pleasant Hill Baptist Church seeks to align our beliefs and practices with Scripture. In general, the following statements summarize our core doctrinal principles:

1. The Bible

The Bible is the Holy Word of God and is revealed to man, free from error, and the sole authority on Godly life and living. (1 Timothy 3:15-17; 2 Peter 3:2)

2. God

There is one God manifest in three persons: Father, Son, and Spirit. (Deuteronomy 6:4; Matthew 28:19)

3. Jesus

Jesus Christ was born of a virgin, lived a sinless life, died to atone for the sins of man, was buried, and rose again on the third day. He ascended to heaven and now sits at the right hand of the Father till the day of His return. (Luke 1:34, 35; Ephesians 1:20; 1 Peter 3:18)

4. Holy Spirit

The Holy Spirit resides in the heart of every believer where He convicts and counsels the believer for the purpose of sanctification. (John 14:16-26; Acts 10:19; Romans 8:10)

5. Humans

Human beings are the special creation of God. Man was made in the image of God but through the sin of the first man, Adam, all men have become tainted by sin from their birth. (Genesis 2:7-23; 3:7-24; Romans 5:12-21)

6. Salvation

Salvation is a free gift offered to anyone who will accept it. For those that do accept it, they are everlasting secure in the hand of God and upon death they will spend eternity with Christ. (Romans 6:23; 10:8-10; Ephesians 2:8-10)

7. Judgment

Anyone who has not received God’s gift of salvation is condemned already. If they remain in this state until death, they will spend eternity in hell. (Luke 9:43-47; 12:5; John 3:18

Baptist Faith and Message (2000) The cooperating churches of the Southern Baptist Convention have prepared a statement of commonly held beliefs known as the Baptist Faith and Message (2000). This document provides a framework to understand major doctrines of Scripture. The family of FBC fully endorses this expression of God’s Word.

Pleasant Hill Baptist Church seeks to create a culture where followers of Jesus organically believe, live, and share the Gospel of Christ for the glory of God. To accomplish this, we live, serve, and make decisions based on three guiding principles.

1. We Have One Source of Authority

Scripture

Key Passage. . .
For whatsoever things were written aforetime were written for our learning, that we through patience and comfort of the scriptures might have hope. (Romans 15:4).

This Means. . .
We make decisions based on biblical precepts & principles.

Diagnostic Question. . .
Does this attitude, action, or decision align with biblical truth?

2. We Have One Manner of Living

Love

Key Passage. . .
A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another. By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another. (John 13:34-35).

This Means. . .
We treat others the way God, in Christ, treats us.

Diagnostic Question. . .
Does this attitude, action, or decision radiate the love that God has shown to us through the cross?

3. We Have One Purpose for Being

the Gospel

Key Passage. . .
For which things’ sake the wrath of God cometh on the children of disobedience: In the which ye also walked some time, when ye lived in them. (Colossians 3:6-7).
Only let your conversation be as it becometh the gospel of Christ: that whether I come and see you, or else be absent, I may hear of your affairs, that ye stand fast in one spirit, with one mind striving together for the faith of the gospel; (Philippians 1:27).

This Means. . .
We believe, share, and live the Gospel of Christ for the Glory of God.

Meet Our Staff

Lead Pastor Josh Smith

Pastor Josh was voted in 100% on 2/23/2025 and he and Mrs. Jessica are excited to serve the people of PHBC and the community. Pastor Josh and Mrs. Jessica were teenage sweethearts and have been married since July 9, 2005. They have two wonderful daughters, Gracie Ann who is in her first year of college and Haven Ivy who will enter high school this next year. Pastor Josh and Mrs. Jessica’s life verse is Jude 1:22 “And of some have compassion, making a difference.” Pastor Josh often says, “people don’t care about how much you know until they know how much you care!”
